Having experienced a few challenging years courtesy of “life,” as well as a recent move to Atlanta, being someone who had always enjoyed being involved in the arts, in October 2024, I found myself looking into possible options in which I could become involved in performing once again. As one does these days, I started my search online and began researching instrumental, theatre and vocal groups that were active in the Metro Atlanta area. It wasn’t long before my algorithm brought a number of options into my social media feed. One of them was a Facebook post for open auditions for Atlanta Vocal Project. The event was a little over a week away, and in that time, I convinced myself that I should attend…. then talked myself out of it…..then convinced myself again that I should at least check it out.
Upon arrival, I was greeted and made welcome by a few members of their leadership and settled in to sitting in on their weekly rehearsal. Throughout the night I was welcomed by many members and had a great inclusive experience. I was encouraged to begin the three step audition and agreed to start the process.
As I write this, I am almost 2 years in as a member and I have had an amazing time as a member of AVP. I had never sung in any group that was on this level in the past and it has challenged and rewarded me on so many levels. I feel as I am growing and learning new skills as a vocalist and am once again enjoying performing live music to appreciative audiences in a number of different venues and have the bonus of becoming friends with 50+ men who share my same love of music. I encourage you to check us out and see if this is something that you would enjoy as well.
